How Can 11 Year Olds Make Money In The Summer
Do you want to make extra money this summer but don't know where to start? Whether you're looking for a summer job or you need more cash, you're in luck.
There are countless ways to make extra money during the summer. Better yet, many of these money-making ideas are available year-round.
While I haven't tried all of the options, I've used several of them to earn hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past decade. The key is to think outside of the box.
Real Ways to Make Extra Money This Summer
If you want to make money this summer, there are plenty of ways to do so. You just need to know where to look.
Here are our top choices to earn cash fast this summer and beyond.
1. Become A Dasher
DoorDash is an alternative to Postmates. The company is a leader in the delivery job space and offers service nationwide.
Similar to Postmates, Dashers deliver meals from local restaurants to customers.
You can choose your schedule and receive at least $2 per order, not including tips. Reports indicate you can earn up to $25 in some cities.
This is an awesome opportunity that lets you make money while you're home on summer vacation. It's also great for college students or people who need a side gig to make ends meet.

2. Deliver Groceries
Do you enjoy shopping for groceries? If so, Instacart Shopper is a good way to make money on the side during the summer or year-round.
Unlike other delivery app gigs, you solely shop for and deliver groceries to people.
Instacart offers full-service shopper opportunities. Being a full-service shopper means you're an independent contractor instead of an employee. It also means you receive tips for delivering groceries.
The service is available nationwide. Reports indicate shoppers earn up to $20 per hour by delivering groceries to people.
Shipt Shopper is a similar service, though it's not available in as many cities.
Check out our table below to learn how Postmates, Doordash, and Instacart compare.
3. Work for Postmates
Delivering items for Postmates is a terrific choice if you're looking for high-paying summer jobs. The on-demand app is a growing service that offers delivery in most cities nationwide.
With Postmates, you deliver items from local businesses to customers. Deliveries can include virtually anything, such as:
- Restaurant meals
- Alcohol
- Dry cleaning
- Groceries
- Office supplies
You choose your own schedule and get paid weekly. It's possible to earn at least $20 per hour in many cities, including tips.
To deliver for Postmates, you need to be at least 18 years old and have access to a car. Some cities will let you deliver by bike.
4. Surf the Web
If you're like me, you're on the internet all the time. Why not make a little extra money this summer while surfing the web?
With Swagbucks, you can earn points (called SB points) that are redeemable for money. Not only can you earn cash by using their search engine, but you can also earn in the following ways:
- Testing new products
- Using their shopping portal
- Playing games online
Swagbucks gives new users a $5 bonus when they open an account.
You can redeem earnings for cash or gift cards. While you won't become wealthy, Swagbucks is an excellent way to earn money in your spare time.
5. Start A Blog
Starting a blog is one of my favorite ideas for making extra money. I started this website nearly a decade ago and it has more than replaced what I earned in my former day job.
What makes blogging such an attractive side business is that there are many income-earning opportunities. My primary source of income is affiliate marketing, but you can make money in other ways, including:
- Display advertising
- Sponsored ads
- Email marketing
It does take time to grow an income-producing website, but it can be worth the effort. If you start now, you could start seeing income roll in by the end of the summer. With additional work, you should see your income grow over time.
Bluehost is our favorite resource to start a blog. They help you launch it, provide technical support, and give you a free domain name. This typically costs $7.99 per month, but you can get it for $2,95 per month through our link.
6. Fill Out Online Surveys
There are companies that will pay you for your opinion. They do this by compensating you to take paid surveys.
Companies love to get insight from anyone. This includes college students, stay-at-home moms, and more. Insights help businesses better understand the market or improve their services.
You won't get rich completing surveys, but it's a mindless way to earn several hundred dollars per month. Here are some of the more popular survey sites:
- Survey Junkie– This is one of the most well-known survey sites in the space. Redemptions are available once you reach $10.
- National Consumer Panel – Not only can you earn through surveys, but the site also pays you to watch videos.
- LifePoints-US-mobile – Earn rewards to turn in for cash or other prizes using your phone, or use LifePoints-US-desktop on your home computer or laptop.
- Maru Springboard America – Complete surveys to earn points and turn them in for prizes or sweepstakes drawings.
- Valued Opinions – Complete surveys, review ads, and test products to receive rewards for a variety of different gift cards.

Do you love spending time with pets? If so, Rover is one of the better money making ideas for college students or people looking to earn extra money.
Dogs need attention and exercise. Pet owners are often too busy to devote the amount of time necessary to take their dogs for walks regularly. This is where dog walkers come in.
If you're at least 18, can pass a background check, and have day time availability, you can make money with Rover.
The site claims you can earn up to $20 hourly. If you offer boarding or overnight services, you can earn even more.
8. Play Games Online
If you like playing games online or watching short videos, InboxDollars is an enjoyable way to make money in your free time.
The site works like Swagbucks and allows you to earn money doing various tasks. That said, it really shines for those who like to play games.
You receive a $5 bonus when you open an account and can cash out once you reach $3o. If you're looking for summer money making ideas to earn spending cash, this is a good opportunity.
9. Babysit or Housesit
Babysitting and housesitting are two easy ways to make money while you're home on summer vacation. These are also great opportunities for those looking to make extra cash.
You can start by telling friends and neighbors you're looking for gigs. If you want to broaden your network, a site like Care.com is an excellent resource. The site lets you create a profile, get recommendations, and find work.

MyPoints gives you a $10 bonus when you make a qualifying purchase through the shopping portal.
If you want a simple way to make some spending money this summer, this is worth trying.

The site lets you list your RV for free. RVshare claims owners can earn between $150 and $350 daily, and up to $40,000 annually for certain styles.
15. Become a Proofreader
If you have an eye for grammar and want to make money from home, proofreading is an excellent option for you to make extra money this summer.
Companies depend on quality content, from email campaigns to articles and more. This content needs to be reviewed before it goes live.
That is where you come in as a proofreader.
You can expect to earn at least $20 per hour in this role. Tell friends and former co-workers you're looking for work or use a site like FlexJobs to locate gigs.
If you don't know where to start, Proofread Anywhere is a helpful course taught by our friend Caitlin Pyle. She shares free tips to launch your business, find clients, and earn more money.

Do you have products you could sell online? If so, you can sell wholesale items online through an e-commerce site and make extra money from home.
Shopifyis a good choice to start a website. They help you set up a virtual storefront and manage the administrative tasks of running it.
Thanks to drop shipping, you don't even need to hold the products yourself. When a customer buys a product, you purchase it from the wholesaler. Shopify then ships it to the customer for you.
Sellfy is another option to help you set up an e-commerce site. Setting up your store with Sellfy takes about five minutes. They have many features to help you customize your online storefront. You can even set up recurring subscriptions.

The service provides insurance coverage while your car is being rented. Just make sure you verify your insurance company has no issues with you renting your vehicle.
18. Get A Part-Time Job
Although this isn't my favorite idea since I'd rather control my hours, you can get a part-time job for some extra cash.
You can find part-time work in seasonal places like camps, plant nurseries, or local parks.
If your kids want some extra cash, there are jobs that hire at 15 that will help them earn money.
19. Rent Out A Room
Do you have a spare room or house you don't use? If you do, listing it on Airbnb is a unique way to make extra money this summer.
What you can earn depends on where you live and the type of accommodations you offer.
