(Plus it doesn't hurt that it will let you buy that new release you've been eyeing off!)
How to make money as a kid online
Finding different ways to make money as a kid online fast can often be the easiest options when you're looking for extra cash. After all, you probably already have internet access given that you're reading this, which is basically all you need to start earning money.
One thing to just keep in mind though is that a lot of these pay you through PayPal. Unfortunately, PayPal has a minimum age limit of 18 so you're going to have to ask a parent or guardian to help you set that up.
1. Do surveys
One of the easiest ways to make money as a kid online fast is to use your spare time to do surveys on one of the many apps that pay you to do just this.
Most of them have a minimum age of 13 years old and let you earn points just for taking a few minutes to do a survey in the app. These points can then be exchanged for gift cards from places like Amazon, Starbucks or even straight up cash through PayPal.
My favorite apps because of how much they offer and how consistently they have surveys available are easily the following:
- Swagbucks (which gives you a free $10 welcome bonus just for signing up)
- InboxDollars (includes a free $5 sign up bonus when you verify your email address)
- MyPoints
2. Start a blog
Plenty of kids have started their own website as a way to make money, so there's no reason why you can't do the same. Just ask Tavi Gevinson, who started her blog, Style Rookie, when she was 11 years old and is now worth millions.
And our step-by-step guide on how to start a blog will help you launch your site in less than 20 minutes!
3. Play games on your phone
If you have your own phone already, you probably spend a good chunk of your time simply messing around on it, including playing games.
So why not make money doing exactly that?
In particular, Swagbucks is a great app for you to earn money in this way. All you have to do is create a profile through the link, download the app and you'll immediately have access to a bunch of games where you can earn cash.
(Not forgetting that amazing free $10 welcome bonus you'll get just for verifying your email address!)
To find out more, check out our super in depth Swagbucks review.
Swagbucks
Free sign-up bonus: $5
A great app for making extra money, including withcash back from online shopping, watching videos, playing games and more.
And givenit's paid out over $550 million through Amazon, Paypal and other gift cards, it's 100% legit.
4. Create printables
If you've spent any time on sites like Etsy, you've probably seen people selling all sorts of printables.
This can include basically anything that helps people get their life in order, including printables for school like homework trackers, cute looking schedules or even simple to-do lists.
Which means for anyone looking for how to make money as a kid online, creating and selling printables is a great way to do this.
Take a look at this page though for how to make money at 12 or under on Etsy, as they do have some requirements.
And to really hit the ground running, it can be a good idea to learn from people who make literally thousands of dollars a month doing exactly this. For that, I would seriously recommend checking out Tracie Fobes course, Easy Printables.
It's super cheap given the sheer amount of information included. In particular, and shows you exactly what she does to make money in this way, including design tips on what actually sells, as well as how to make sure people are seeing and buying your products.
Click here to find out more about Tracie's Easy Printables course.
5. Self-publish an ebook
If you've ever dreamed of becoming an author but think it's out of reach because you're still a kid, that's absolutely not true. In particular, the fact that you can now self publish your own e-books makes this more accessible than ever.
Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing is easily the best way to do this. Once you've written your book – which can literally be about anything you want – it takes less than five minutes for you to publish it online.
From there, you'll have access to Amazon's millions of customers and you'll get to keep up to 70% of the sales price. And with people making more than $10,000 a month as a side hustle by doing this, it's definitely a way to make money for kids too.

6. Sell crafts on Etsy
Etsy isn't only a way to make money selling digital products. If you're a bit creative, you can actually sell almost anything you want on there.
Things like jewelry are always very popular, but no matter what you're good at, there's definitely a market for you to corner on there.
This could also be more lucrative than, say, selling the same things in person, as your potential customer base is literally the entire world.
7. Create an online course
Creating an online course is one of the best ways to make money as a kid or an adult. This is because once you've done the hard work of actually creating the course, you can basically leave it to continue earning money without much extra work on your part.
And you can create a course on essentially anything you want! It helps if you have a particular area of expertise, but even the most obscure topics are often something that people out there are willing to pay to learn about.
In terms of which platform to use when building your site and making it available to people, Learnworlds is one of the best. It's incredibly easy to build a professional-looking course on there, even if you don't have any prior experience in doing this. And it's free to try it out!
Sign up for your free 30-day trial with Learnworlds here.
8. Tutor online
If you like the sound of figuring out how to make money as a kid online by teaching people, working as an online tutor is the obvious next step.
And it's perfectly fine to do this even as a kid. In fact, students are often more comfortable having someone their own age tutor them online compared to an adult, as you're more likely to know what schools are teaching these days and then can adapt your own tutoring to suit this.
Depending on the subject you want to teach, there are different sites that will work best for you. This means that the best thing to do here is simply start with a Google search.

9. Listen to music
Slice the Pie is a site that pays you to listen to and review a whole range of music. It can include your more typical song, but also things like jingles from advertisements.
And as you let the site know what you think, your opinions are then used to shape how companies use this music going forward.
The site doesn't make it entirely clear what its age limit is, although other sites suggest that it's 13 years old, so it's possible that it's not a way to make money at 12 or under. You'll also need a PayPal account to get paid, so make sure you ask an adult to set this up for you.
10. Design and sell shirts
Designing and selling shirts is a great way to make money as a kid, especially when there are ways to do this without having to actually buy and print the t-shirt yourself.
Instead, sites like Café Press let you upload designs that people can then pay for. If they choose to buy it, the site will then print the design and send the product to them instead of you having to do anything.
The age limit is 13 years old so if you're younger than that, you may need someone's help in order to do this.
11. Stream yourself playing games
Platforms like Twitch have made it incredibly easy to make money as a kid online. While the kids we hear about making hundreds of thousands of dollars are rare, it's actually not that hard to make a few hundred dollars or even a couple of thousand.
Clearly this is going to be more for those kids who are gamers. But if that's you, focusing on building a following is a good place to start.

And there's no age limit on this, meaning it's a perfect way to make money for kids. You also don't have to be an expert on the topic – simply do your research and submit an article on whatever subject the website is looking for.

When looking for where to sell these, Etsy is again a great place to start.

Developing a website is one thing, but coding an entire game (or other similar app) is a whole other level.
This means that this option won't be open to everyone. But if you have the knowledge, developing your very own game can make you a ton of money.
This isn't a way to make money fast online for kids, as building the game will obviously take some time. But given just how much money you can make from this, it may very well be worth it.
How can I make money fast as a kid from home?
15. Sell your used items
One common answer to the question of how to make money fast as a kid or an adult is to sell things. And while it may sound simple, it also works.
Your problem here is that your parent or guardian may not appreciate you selling things they bought, so make sure you get their permission before doing this.
But you could explain this to them as if you're helping to clean out the house a bit. By selling these things for them (and taking a cut, of course), it's going to be a very quick way to make money while also clearing out some space for them – a win win!
16. Flip second hand things
Another similar way to make money from home is to flip secondhand items, which is when you buy something then resell it at a higher price.
You don't even need to have your own cash to start doing this, as a common trick is to find something that's being given away on sites like Craigslist. You can then sell this for a few dollars, use that cash to buy something else secondhand, resell that at an even higher price… and work your way up from there.
Websites like Craigslist, eBay and Facebook Marketplace can be great for doing this. Just make sure your parent or guardian is aware of what you're doing, so they're comfortable that you're not accidentally interacting with any weirdos while trying to sell your items.

18. Invent an idea
Making money by inventing something is definitely a way to make money for kids, as well as adults.
Just look at Abbey Fleck, who invented a product called Makin'Bacon when she was 8 years old and was earning $1 million per year from this.
Which means there's no reason why you can't do the same! In fact, it's often the simplest ideas that are the most valuable, so make sure you write down any strikes of brilliance that suddenly hit you.
And you can easily push forward with an invention idea even if you don't have any money, making this a great option for kids who probably don't have several thousand dollars sitting around waiting to move an idea to production.

If you're looking for how to make money as a kid and "doing chores" hasn't come to mind yet, perhaps the most obvious option is the best one.
Clearly your parent or guardian will have to be on board with this, as they're the ones who'll be paying you. But if you can get them to agree to pay you a set amount for doing a certain list of tasks each week, this can be an easy and consistent way to earn some extra cash, no matter your age.
20. Rent out your stuff
Renting out stuff you're not using is a great way to make money as a kid, as it requires no extra work on your part or extra money to be spent.
It generally involves people renting things from you that you're not otherwise using, like sports equipment or equipment related to some kind of hobby, like photography.
It's a good idea to get your parent or guardian on board with this so they know you're not just giving away stuff that they may have bought for you. But once that's in order, take a look at websites like Buro which can help link you up with people who are looking to rent your stuff.

23. Participate in focus groups
Participating in a focus group is basically when a company asks you for your opinion during a set session, usually on a specific product or in relation to industry more broadly.
And while most of these are targeted at adults, it can also be a way to make money for kids. In particular, companies whose products target children often like to do market research into what kids actually think about their products and their company as a whole.
While you won't be able to find one of these available to kids every single day, it's a good idea to keep an eye on sites that advertise these so you know when opportunities arise – particularly as they can pay more than $100 just for an hour of work.

26. Enter contests
Entering contests may sound like an obvious way to make money, but a lot of people don't do this because I think they have no chance of winning.

You can also use this strategy to recommend your own products. For example, remember those printables we mentioned earlier? You could easily advertise your own digital products through your own YouTube channel.
30. Get funding from your YouTube subscribers
When looking for how to make money as a kid on YouTube, directly getting money from your subscribers may not be the first thing that comes to mind.

Making money by landscaping gardens is similar to some of the other options we just mentioned, although it can be a bit more involved.

47. Aerating lawns
Aerating lawns isn't that hard, but it can be a bit time consuming which is why people are often willing to pay someone else to do it for them.

Offering to run errands for people is another way to make some really quick cash outside of your home. For example, you could make yourself available to pick up groceries if people don't have the time or ability to do it themselves.

57. Photographer
Working as a photographer as a kid won't let you book, say, weddings but there are less formal occasions where people would be willing to pay you for your services.
